Working in the same vicinity or side by side with a spouse can seem daunting for some, but not for these amazing couples. They bring their love for each other to work every day in their roles as general managers and owners in the flourishing hotel industry in Curaçao. That’s the secret sauce of the hospitality business: make the guests feel welcomed and cared for through the LOVE of what you do and who you are as a couple and the rest takes care of itself. Behind the scenes are some extraordinary people making sure visitors get what they came for, that is, a vacation that is exactly what they had dreamed it would be, customized and attentive to details, and understanding of the wishes of their guests. by Sheila Botton

Baoase Luxury Resort Bliss

This interview took place outside the dreamy, luxurious setting of the Baoase Resort hugged by the soft white sand that meets a sparkling turquoise shore and an atmosphere flanked by tasteful Zen sculptures collected from Western civilisation. On this particular day I had an interview set up with the gatekeepers of Baoase Resort, Jesse and Oliver Zahn, a radiant young couple exuding the same beauty and elegance that inspires them every day at work here at the Baoase.

Jesse and Oliver stand strong as a married couple managing the resort and taking innovative approaches to the hospitality experience so their guests will have a most positive and unforgettable experience on vacation.

“We had to adjust to our new way of life – from a structured lifestyle in Europe to the laid-back Island life,” says Oliver “We each have our strengths and we know how to complete each other… behind every successful man is a great woman.”

He adds: “Knowing that 80% of our guests are couples, we focus on catering to and offering what we expect couples will want. And we have fun with this aspect because we can allow our romantic side as a couple to unfold into the essence of the resort and our guests love it.”
Jesse smiles and adds: “we want happy and relaxed guests, so with foresight we do what it takes to plan and organize all the details big and small. And the food! Our superior fine cuisine is prepared by our very own Star Chef,  Rene Klop from Holland.
The Culinary Beach Restaurant offers an excellent International Caribbean Cuisine with Asian influences. We try to keep everything here personal and passionate; we really love what we do!”

Garden View Villa with private pool & jacuzziThey must be doing something right because even as we were conducting this interview Jesse and Oliver were in the throes of renovation and expansion. Since suites are very much in demand, the resort is presently handling the development of nine new suites, the expansion and construction of private villas, secluded beaches and an infinity swimming pool. Presently the Baoase Luxury Resort hosts up to 78 guests.

“We love to create opportunity for the locals and they enjoy working here and many of our employees are Antilleans. This reflects well with our guests who love the brush with an authentic island feeling.”

Baoase Luxury Resort offers luxury home villas and private suites which all embrace a unique design and an irresistible romantic atmosphere. The resort is surrounded by meandering freeform pools, waterfalls, swaying palms and an idyllic private beach.

The Baoase experience is a unique one, from in-villa wellbeing treatments to in-villa cooking to just relaxing by your own private pool or strolling the beach.
It is meant to make memories for a lifetime. In April 2015 the resort will boast an additional ten exquisite beachfront Suite.
